A Short Review: The Barclay’s Wine Experience

The easiest way to impress someone close to you is to find a great wine to give that person as a gift. One of the standard wines that seems to appeal to most peoples’ tastes is Barclay’s Wine, of which there are 12 varieties.

The Tour

The Barclay’s Wine Experience is a tour of the different flavors that are available. A total of 12 different types of red or white wine can be sent to gift recipients (or you). You can choose a mixed variety or all red or all white.

This is an ideal gift for the loved one or friend that you know that likes to put on huge dinner parties. This person can set out one or more of the Barclay’s wines out at the refreshment table. To each his or her own, so the suggestion is to supply your gift recipient as many different samples as possible.

Of course, the only exception is if the person you are buying for is already a Barclay’s connoisseur. Perhaps this person you are buying for already has a favorite flavor that is most enjoyed. In this case, you are better off buying a whole case of one type of Barclay’s with maybe perhaps the exception of one bottle just in case your recipient wants something different.

By the way, this may be the perfect kind of gift for your office associates or your superior. You can purchase a case and perhaps give everyone a bottle. (Suggestion: wrap them decoratively to make it look like you put some amount of thought into giving this gift.)

Advantages

The price is reasonable for the quality of wine your loved one or friend will receive. The variety allows you add new stock to any wine lover’s collection-provided that person has room left in the cellar! (Perhaps for this type of wine the receiver will make room for it down there or somewhere in the liquor cabinet.)

It usually is very easy to impress anyone who loves wine presenting this bran. It also saves the receivers of this fine present from having to go purchase this specialty drink themselves. This is one of the most convenient ways of ordering this product as there is no travel even needed if you order online.

Disadvantage (Not Much!)

There really is not much disadvantage to sending this wine to your friends or family. The only minor downside to doing so is if you have know idea if they even drink wine. In this case, it may not be a good idea.

Furthermore, if you are not sure what flavor of wine they might enjoy the most. It might be one opportunity you should pass up. Otherwise, The Barclay’s Wine Experience is one of the best choices of a special present that you can give almost anyone.

Note: Another disadvantage would be if you are under 21 years old of age you cannot typically purchase alcohol on your own. (This is true even if you have no intention to drink it your self.) If you want to give it as a gift an adult may have to purchase it for you.

Barclays wine provided me with the worst customer service i have EVER experienced. Their website says 10-14 days for your order to arrive. I am going on a month and a half still no wine. Contacted their customer service 5 times i was told “we will get back to you” have they, Not once. The whole purpose of my order was for super bowl which is 2 days away and still i will not have my wine.

I would like to share my experience with Barclay’s Wine:

I very excitedly placed my order for wines from Barclay’s and everything with the order and shipment went smoothly… until I uncorked two of the bottles of champagne that I purchased (for $26.95 each) and realized they had turned to vinegar. I contacted Barclay’s to inform them of this and to request two replacement bottles. Despite their “guarantee” on their website, they said they would only issue me a $20 credit to a future order. This clearly did not remedy the problem, and it would not pay for ONE replacement bottle, even excluding shipping costs. In an attempt to address their concerns about the high cost of shipping (which they cited as a principal reason they would not replace the bad champagne they sent me), I even offered to pay shipping for two bottles of the same champagne to replace the two bottles of vinegary champagne they had sent me. They again said no. A supervisor with Barclay Wines also declined to do anything more than offer a $20 credit. Unacceptable.

I would not order from Barclay’s Wine again.

I will never order from Barclay’s Wine again. In my order, they forgot a bottle of wine. This doesn’t seem like a big deal. I called them to get it re-sent. It is now 3 months later and a bottle of wine has finally arrived. It’s the wrong bottle. They substituted a cheaper bottle of wine since they were out of the original. When I explained that I had looked up the price of the new bottle online (and that it was half the price), the representative insulted me and said there was no way I could have possibly found the same bottle online as only they carry that brand. I re-did the search and informed her of the search results. “Please hold” was all she said in response. When she came back on, she informed me that I had to take the cheaper bottle of wine as my substitute and refused to even apologize. Horrible company!

I, just as everyone else was really excited for my order. I had a groupon and I used it to order some Christmas gifts. I ordered 3 weeks before christmas and was told that they would arrive a week before the holiday. I ended up rerouting the package and picking it up on the 27th of December. Two of the bottles in my package were the wrong bottles. 2 and a half months later I noticed a $150 charge on my bank statement. Barclays had signed me up for a quarterly membership. I called to speak to a very rude customer service rep who told me they could cancel my account with them but not refund my money. They told me that the wine had not yet even been shipped but there was no way to do a refund. I asked what would happen if I denied the package and didn’t sign for it, she said the package would be returned and they would refund $100 but keep $50 for shipping and restocking. So.. all of a sudden they CAN do a refund but will not refund the total amount. what a horrible company, try being able to sell your wine without the scam!

What a joke of a company.

I bought the groupon last december and placed an order specifically making sure that I did not check the membership box.

Barclay’s Wine shipped and charged me ($150) for 12 bottles of wine anyways!!!

So far I have been unable to get any one live in customer service to cancel my account. This is so frustrating when I company just peddles crap to customers.

Top it off… the wine is terrible and tastes like vinegar.

Don’t ever do business with this company!!!!!!!!

I’ve seen some bad reviews of Barclays online, but I gotta say my experience has been pretty good. Ordering was fine, I joined the club and selected a mixed case. They sent me a confirmation email and my order info was available on their website. My one qualm with the ordering process is that they don’t send an email when it ships. Still, this was available on their website, so it’s not as if it was hard to check.

Once it shipped, their website had the tracking number and I was able to see my delivery info on FedEx’s website. Wine arrived well within the 10-14 day window they promised. The selection is not terrible. I received 2x ‘Carma’ Carmenere 2010, 2x ‘Chateau Les Tuileries’ Bordeaux 2009, 2x ‘Roza Ridge’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2004, 2x ‘Carma’ Sauvignon Blanc 2010, 2x ‘Blue Pirate’ Pinot Gris 2008, and 2x ‘Lunacy’ Chardonnay 2007.

I looked all of these up, and the cheapest I could get these for would be $161.66 + whatever sales tax I ended up paying. I bought the groupon so all total I spent about $100 on this wine, including $20 shipping (which I won’t have to pay next time apparently). I haven’t popped any of the bottles yet as I just received them, but non of this strikes me as the horrible experiences I’ve read some people say they had.

All in all, I’d say 4 out of 5. I’m satisfied with everything except for the not getting a shipping email and maybe one or two of the selections could be improved slightly. Oh, and I didn’t get the tasting notes… need to call them about that.

I order wine on line weekly. I typically use wine.com or lot18. Both companies are great and stand behind their product 100 percent. Barclay’s and Barclaysbin on the other hand do not. I recently bought a 4 bottle deal from Barclaysbin which had at least 2 full tablespoons of sediment. It was disgusting. While attempting to drink it, after running it thru a coffee filter, I called them. They would not credit me the lousy $14.00, no way, no how. They claim that Barclaysbin does not have the same guarantee as barclay’s. Really? So, drink my sediment and shut up? After repeated attempts to recuperate my money, I failed. They win. For $14, I’m out of there. Their wine is no big deal (Their = Barclaysbin AND Barclays) – same company from a consumer perspective.

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. Funny how two different companies have the same phone number. Do not buy from them! Try wine.com or Lot18.
